WILLIAM HENRY FRENCH
The death of William H. French last week was told in this paper. He had been ailing for some time and had been a patient at the Alliance hospital for the past two or three weeks. But it was felt that there was little chance of his recovery, owing to the complication of maladies and his advanced age. Everything was done, however, that could be to restore him to normal rugged health. Death came to him in spite of all that was done early Tuesday morning, May 29th, 1934.
The Wright Undertaking establishment here took charge of arrangements, making the trip to Alliance and bringing the remains here for preparation for burial. The funeral services were held from the Pilgrim Holiness church in Lewellen Thursday afternoon, the pastor Rev. George Harper, delivering the funeral sermon. Burial was in the family plot in the Ash Hollow cemetery, a large congregation gathering for both services as the departed one had any friends in the community where he had resided so many years.
William Henry French was born in Wayne county, Missouri, on April 20, 1862, and departed this life on May 29, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 9 days. He came to this county about a quarter of a century ago and made homestead entry on a Kincaid section in 1909 or 1910. He later accumulated other lands through purchase until his ranch holdings run over three thousand acres.
During these years that have passed since his establishing a home in this county, he enjoyed a wide acquaintance and has always been one of the highly respected citizens. His opinions were sought and respected by his neighbors and friends.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Jennie French, and seven children as follows: Amanda William of Des Moines, Iowa; Catherine Van Romer, Jersey City, N. J.; Howard, Lloyd, Sam, Joseph and Mattie, all at home. He also leaves one brother and one sister and nine grandchildren, besides the numerous friends.
