William Sherrill Sorrell, 71, of 204 Carolyn Drive, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Mr. Sorrell was born March 6, 1932, in Johnston County to the late John Calvin and Nellie Mangum Sorrell. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Sorrell, and a brother, Edward Sorrell. He was a retired builder and a member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Sorrell served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of American Legion Banner Post 109 where he was past commander. Surviving are his special companion of 37 years, Margaret Allen of Four Oaks; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Chris Anthony of Jacksonville; daughter-in-law, Debbie Sorrell of Jacksonville; sisters, Katie Raynor and her husband Garlon of Portsmouth, Va., Della Grace Moore of Benson, Annie Ruth White of Erwin and Inez Penny of Smithfield; sister-in-law, Ruby F. Sorrell of Benson; four grandchildren, Matthew Anthony, Raymond Sorrell, Kendall Sorrell and Kimberly Sorrell. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Della Grace Moore, 504 N. Johnson Street, Benson. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn McCullen and the Rev. Barry Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
