P. J. & Pauline Lindsey - Millennium Parade Marshals
TAYLORVILLE – P. J. and Pauline Lindsey have been selected to serve as the Christian County 2000 Celebration Parade Marshals. They were married Sept. 23, 1933 in the Grace Baptist Church. Serving as attendants were Frank and Mary Jane Howell, brother-in-law and sister of the bride. When they were married, P. J. had to borrow $5, with $2 used to purchase the license, $2 for the preacher, with the remaining dollar spent to attend the movies. Over the years, the biggest changes they have seen are space travel, the first light bulb and the decline of the train being replaced with air travel. Mrs. Lindsey wrote an essay in eighth grade on what the schools would be like in the year 2000. She received an 85 on the paper. Mr. Lindsey said, "You could walk faster than the first flight of the airplane." Mrs. Lindsey is an avid interior decorator and does all of her own work, including painting. All of the household upkeep is shared by the couple. Mr. Lindsey loves his garden work and Mrs. Lindsey advised her greatest love is her television and old movies. They have been life-long residents of Taylorville, with the only exception being a few years spent in the Florida Keys. Children of the couple are Judy and Lyle Adams, Jane and Warren Kutch and Jim and Kathy Lindsey, all of Taylorville. They also have nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two of their granddaughters, Kelly Bland and Lindsey Schaefer, are former Christian County Fair Queens.
