His son, Thomas W. lists his father's birthplace as KY in the 1880 Census.
Goodspeed Biographies for Marshall Co., TN lists an article that verifies this husband and wife from the "Blue-Grass State". The URL is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnmarshl/goodspeed/gdspdbiosB.html (1999)
He was in Maury Co., TN in Jun 1809 as a Road Commissioner.
"He resided in KY until 1800, then went to Lincoln Co. (later became Marshall), TN. He was a man of remarkable intellectual powers, superior to many of his associates in that particular. He and wife were not professed Christians, but they inclined to the Methodist Episcopal faith. He was an old-line Democrat and died at the age of sixty-two." (Goodspeed)
He is listed in the War of 1812 and was with Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. (Goodspeed History of Central, AR. pg 245)
Information in TN Vol IV Marshall Co., TN Bible Records, Cemetery Records, Will, Land Grants, and Court Records from Genealogical Records, TN Society NSDAR 1978-1979 lists the children of Thomas BRENTS.
There is room in this family line for another family group considering the dates of births of children do not begin until 1810-1815.

A Thomas Brents head of household appears in 1840 Marshall County census, 000110001-01000001. I suppose the 60-70 year old male could be someone else, but.... Also I do not have a copy, but there was a Thomas Brents will recorded, 1842, as-a-72 (MS).

Thomas Wesley BRENTS SR. 1775-1837 settled in Marshall County while it was still wilderness country.
The BRENTS family lived in the Cane Creek area of Marshall County where my great grandparents lived. I located the abandoned cemetery a few years ago where Thomas Wesley BRENTS, SR 1775 - 1837 with his wife Margurett are buried. He was the father of Dr. T. W. BRENTS. Dr. T. W. BRENTS was a self made man.
He taught himself in his early years and from there he went on to medical school in Macon, GA. He was a surgeon. Dr.
BRENTS was a man of several professions. He was a (1) preacher of the gospel, (2) a medical doctor, (3) a writer
(wrote the book "The Gospel Plan of Salvation"), (4) a debater, (5) a banker, (6) a college president. He prepped David Lipscomb for a lot of his religious debates. He worshipped and preached at the Cane Creek Church of
Christ where my great grandparents attended and I am sure his son Dr. Thomas Elias BRENTS and my great aunt Orphia PROSSER grew up together and were childhood sweethearts.
Note - 3:
I have in my possession a copy of Dr. T. E. BRENT's obituary where it tells of the story of him being shot
at Chickamauga during the Civil War and the tinplate picture of Orphia is what saved his life. I also have in my
possession pictures of Dr. T. E., Orphia, and their son US Marshall "Big" Ed Brents that were stored in my
grandfather's trunk and dad had them in his possession. They settled in Ada, OK after the Civil War while the area
was still Indian Country prior to Oklahoma joining the Union. "Big" Ed had quite a name of his own.
I guess he was the Wyatt Earp of the time.
Note - 4:
Orphia was the first of eleven children born of Jonathan Edward PROSSER (06 Dec. 1820 - 17 Feb. 1907). Jonathan
Edward PROSSER married 05 Nov. 1844 Hepsie JOHNSTON (26 August, 1826 - 28 April 1881) Hepsie
JOHNSTON was the daughter of Howel JOHNSTON and Orphia NORRIS. It is my belief that
Howel and Orphia were from the Johnston Community north of North Augusta, SC. The PROSSER and BRENTS family attended the Cane Creek Church of Christ where Jonathan was an elder
and Dr. T. W. BRENTS preached. Dr. BRENTS preached in many congregations throughout Middle Tennessee. Orphia's second sibling was Mary Frances "Fannie" who also settled in the North Texas panhandle. She married John Henry DARNELL and they settle din Pampa, Texas. Jonathan and Hepsey traveled to the western states occasionally to visit their daughters. This is revealed in the Minutes of the Cane Creek Church of Christ Minutes 1845 - 1985 along with a lot of other information about the families. The last few years I have done an on and off study of the Restoration
Movement History in which Dr. T. W. wsa very active in. You may want to look at these web sites where he is shown. The Reformation in Tennessee, by J. W. Grant - The Reformation Of Tennessee - The Reformation Of TennesseeTo chronicle the achievements of those who have figured on the stage of life, to recount their deeds, their labors, and their struggles is not an easy task; The Restoration Movement then click on History Index page to get access to Dr. Brents.
