Notes |
- 1688: Gloucester Co., VA "at the head of Wm. Rees land, dec'd, by the road to the Court House."
1726: 23 Mar 1726 Survey William Rees on upper side of Nummessen Creek 326 A. No deed has been found, but this is obviously the 326 A. deeded in 1738 to Roger and William Rees that they inherited from their father, William, late of Prince George Co., in Amelia Co. In 1726, the Amelia area was still part of Prince George. It is not clear from the 1738 deed if "late of Prince George Co." meant he died recently in Prince George or if he died in Prince George prior to 1736 when the Amelia Co. land was still in Prince George Co.
1748: Tithe Lists Lunenburg Co. In addition to the William Reas already included in the document, there is Mathius Rees on Caldwell's list which allegedly included what is now eastern Campbell Co. This county was formed from Bedford. Mathius is listed several times in early Bedford Co. records. William was on Phelps' list which covered what is now Bedford Co. and western Campbell Co.
1761: 14 Feb 1761 William Reeves 325 A lower side Stoney Creek by John Howell's. Lunenburg Co., VA Deeds
1772: 29 Oct 1772 Book D-4, p 331-334. Wiliam Rees, planter and Mary, his wife, to Edwin Rees, planter, both of Craven Co., for the sum of L 100 currency 100 A, part of 300 A in Craven Co., on North side of Santee River at a place called High Hills, granted 30 July 1765 by Gov. Thomas Boone to William Rees...the 100 A as marked off, bounding on northwest on Charles Rees; southeast on William Rees; other sides on Rees; running along the line that divides the 300 A from Isham Rees to a red oak on the 300 A line; then a straight course to the corner of said 100 A belonging to Charles Rees, being a hickory stake in the 300 A tract. Witnesses: Hugh Rees, Isham Rees, Benjamin Key. Recorded 17 Jun 1773.
Note: since Roger Rees assuredly received more than a 100 A grant, Charles 100 A are probably part of Rogers's original grant. Roger Rees was apparently still alive in 1767 as a deed refers to his land bounding it.
Davis R. Reese-Note: It is near certain that William was the oldest (1738-9). It is known that Hugh was born in 1742. Benjamin is alleged to have been born a1752 (first child 1780), Edwin a1750 and Isham somewhere around those two (a1748). It is near certain that Isham was not the Isham listed in the Bristol Parish Register as born in 1732 (see Virginia).
