- James Gowen Berry, son of W. C. Berry and Eliza C. Gowen Berry, was born March 15, 1886 in Madison County. When he was orphaned by the death of both of his parents he went to live with his aunt Manerva Ann Gowen Riddick about 1901. On December 31, 1908 he sold his interest in the inheritance from William Benjamin Gowen to Manerva Ann Gowen Riddick for $75, according to Madison County Deed Book 97, page 564.
On January 3, 1910 he was married, probably in Madison County, to Nannie Belle Powers. She was born August 4, 1887 in Madison County. He died June 7, 1932. Nannie Belle Powers Berry in April 1973 lived in Big Spring Manor, Huntsville, Alabama after undergoing a leg amputation. She continued there in June 1982 when visited by Arlee Claud Gowen.
