Richard Burleson, 70, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol.
Mr. Burleson was born September 12, 1938 in Roda, VA, a son of the late, Robert Theodore and Lois Gibbs Burleson and had resided in Kingsport most of his life.
He was a non-denominational Christian and avid bluegrass gospel music guitar player.
After working for Tennessee Eastman Company from 1962 until 1994 he and his wife of 47 years, Dorothy, worked as campground managers at Breaks Interstate Park for four years. Richard loved outdoor sports, was a certified volunteer instructor for the Tennesee Wildlife Resource Agency, a member of the Kingsport Power Squadron, the American Water Ski Association, the NRA and Tri-Cities Geocachers. He was a ham radio operator and a lifetime member of the AARL.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy S. Burleson; one sister, Janice Collins; one nephew, Rob Collins; one brother-in-law, Fred Sorrells and his wife Helen and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 30, 2008 from 1 to 3 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home Funeral Home with services to follow. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va.
