Jan 5th, 1854, John "Davis" Brumfield, was awarded 40 acres in section 27, NE¼NW¼, for his participation in the War of 1812. He was a private in the Company of Captain Beckham, Louisiana Militia. Later that year, Dec, 1st, he bought 3 tracks of land, 40 acres each, and contiguous to each other. (1) NW¼NW¼ section 26; SE¼NW¼ section 27; NE¼NE¼ section 32. Again in 1859, he bought 4 contiguous tracks of land in sections 22, 23 and 27 totaling 200 acres. A grand total of 360 acres, just before the start of the Civil War.
