According to the Buncombe County Genealogical Society, Maj. William Davidson and his wife Margaret McConnell Davidson were originally buried on their property at the mouth of Bee Tree Creek where it enters the Swannanoa River and were later moved to Piney Grove.
Research by Holt Felmet disputes that the burial site was moved to Piney Grove.
The land where the Charles D Owen Park is located is part of the land owned by William.
Inscription on DAR marker contains incorrect birth and death dates: William Davidson,Soldier of the Revolution. House of Commons 1790. Senate 1792. One of the Earliest Settlers of the French Broad Valley. He was prominent in the organization of Buncombe County.
Parents are John Davidson and his wife Jane (whose maiden name was likely Tucker). William was a twin to Samuel Davidson. He married Margaret in 1758.
His first child, Mary McConnell "Polly" Davidson, was born 4 Oct 1760. She married Col. Daniel Smith

Craig-Davidson House, left (original) section built before 1780. Wing on the right with an engaged porch was added ca 1815. There are three unmatched brick chimneys. Location, originally Mecklenburg Co, then Burke Co, and now McDowell Co, as the counties were established, along the Catawba river about 4 1/2 miles from Old Fort, then called Davidson's Fort (established 1776). Major William Davidson (1736-1814) and his wife Margaret McConnell Davidson lived here (1770s-1785). Date before ca 1950 when second story was added to right section. I found this on the Buncombecounty.org website.
