James H. "Jim" Hartsell, 84, Greeneville, died Thursday at his home.
Mr. Hartsell was a widely-known businessman, owner/operator of Hartsell's Auto Center and Jim's Stuff.
He was a member of Towering Oaks Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and greeter.
Mr. Hartsell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines.
A lifelong NASCAR fan, he worked with suite security at Bristol Motor Speedway.
"He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather," his family noted.
Survivors include his wife: Dot Hartsell; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Rod Hartsell and Jerry and Donna Hartsell, all of Greeneville; two daughters and sons-in-law: Donna and Danny Britt of Jonesborough and Lisa and Lee Morrow of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren: Kelly Merkel, Natalie Carter, Bart Hartsell, Joe Pat Hartsell, Todd Hartsell, Nathan Morrow, Lindsey Morrow, Lydia Morrow, and Katie Hartsell; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Johnnie and Louise Wilson and Buddy and Nancy Wilson.
He was a son of the late Pearl McAfee Hartsell.
The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Towering Oaks Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. James K. Pierce III and the Rev. Dennis Shumate will officiate.
Interment will follow in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.
Pallbearers will be Casey Hartsell, Chris Merkel, Bart Hartsell, Joe Pat Hartsell, Nathan Morrow, Christian Merkel, and Justin Merkel.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Lingo, Charlie Key, Frank Parker, Ramsey Cutshall, and Billy Noland.
