- BURLINGTON [NC] - Dorothy "Dot" Margaret Flinchum Wade, 86, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Twin Lake Community in Burlington.
Funeral services will be held at Low's Lutheran Church in Liberty. Interment will follow at Coble's Lutheran Church in Julian.
Dorothy was born in Surry County, NC, on October 24, 1925. She was the second daughter of Eugene Gaither Flinchum and Hettie Denny Flinchum. She began her schooling in Surry County [before] the family moved to Guilford County where she attended and graduated from Alamance High School. She married John Craven Wade in April, 1941, and they were happily married for fifty two years until his death in 1993. For many years, they owned and managed Wade's Store on Alamance Church Road where they lived for most of their married life. Her last three years she lived at Twin Lakes Community in Burlington. She was employed for twenty-five years with Sears Roebuck Mail Order Division in Greensboro where she received many certificates of commendation for her excellent work throughout her tenure at Sears.
Dorothy was a devout church member of Low's Lutheran Church for many years. Her church work included that of Sunday school teacher, services to retirees and disabled members, and other volunteer duties. Her many friends and family members will remember Dorothy Wade as one who willingly helped others and cared for those in need. She was a true Christian and lived her life in a way that demonstrated her beliefs.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Lawrence Flinchum; and nephew, Teddy Flinchum.
One of a family of six, Dorothy is survived by three sisters, Edith Marie Ward, Betty Mae Flinchum, Joanne Trudick; brother, Carl Flinchum; nieces and nephews, Susie Frazier, Melvin Ward, Boyd Ward, Carolyn Hoover, Terry Flinchum, Eugene Flinchum, Judy Rees, Jerry Flinchum, Sandra Kiger, Debbie Vasey, Amy Williams, Steve Paddock, Donnie Paddock, and Mike Paddock.
