GIBSON, EDGAR REECE (TRUBB) - formerly of Seymour, Tennessee, died peacefully at home in Knoxville on May 31. Edgar was born on July 8, 1928, one of twelve children born to Pink and Hester Cusick Gibson. He was a graduate of Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy and a life-long member of Dupont Baptist Church in Sevier County, where he taught the Andrews Men's Sunday School class for many years. Edgar was a member of the Seymour Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was active in the Dupont Community Club and Grange organization and was selected Granger of the Year in 1992. Edgar served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1951-1952. His family loved hearing stories of his Army days. He was a Sergeant First Class and formed lasting friendships with some of the men who served under his leadership. Edgar retired from Robertshaw Fulton in Knoxville in 1991 where he worked as a welder. Edgar was preceded in death by his dearly loved son, Mark Edgar Gibson. Survivors are his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Temple Gibson; daughters, Anita (husband Clay) Davis, and Marsha (husband Mark) Livesay; grandchildren, are Matthew Davis (wife Rachel Casey Davis), Rachel Livesay Key, and Kristin Livesay Bailey (husband Justin Bailey), all of Knoxville. His surviving sisters are Ernestine Allen and Doris Berrier, both of Sevier County. He also leaves several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. While Edgar lived in Seymour he was fortunate to have a special friend, James Peppers, who visited every week as Edgar's health declined. Edgar and Charlotte were also blessed with wonderful neighbors, Trent and Jody Tallent, and Betty Galyon and her late husband Otha. The family extends a special thanks to Mary Mitchell, who provided loving care to Edgar and Charlotte in their home during the past two years. Edgar was a home-loving man whose life centered around his family. He loved his cabin on Chilhowee (Bluff) Mountain, and one of his great joys was providing for his family from his bountiful garden. His happy smile always brightened our hearts. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at Atchley Funeral Home in Seymour on Saturday, June 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet at Dupont Cemetery on Sunday, June 3, at 3:30 p.m. for a graveside service with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. Rev. W. A. Galyon and Rev. Dallas Moore will conduct the service. The family suggests that those wishing to make a donation in Edgar's memory consider Dupont Baptist Church, 1711 Dupont Road, Seymour, Tennessee 37865 or Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy, C/O The King's Academy, 202 Smothers Road, Seymour, Tennessee 37865.
