- Jacob Charles Krugle
1929 - 2018
Jacob Charles Krugle January 6, 1929 - November 7, 2018 San Diego As the Great Depression fell on U.S. citizens, Jacob Charles Krugle was born on January 6, 1929 in Palmyra, Ohio to Ida Rose and Charles Francis Krugle. He and his six siblings learned early the lessons of WORK SAVE PRAY.
Jake was required to work on the family farm from an early age. At age 11, Jake was apprenticed to a trucking company. The owner became his kind mentor, teaching him about office and mechanical skills. He was given much responsibility and doing the work of a mature young man. Jake graduated at 16 years old from Palmyra Township High School in Ohio. In 1946, the family moved to San Diego, California, where he became an "ice man" at age 17 with the Union Ice Company. In 1948, his family moved again, leaving Jake on his own in San Diego, living in a boarding house and developing his social skills as an adult.
During this time, Jake hurriedly married Edith Poe before he left for the war, as was common during that time. They divorced just as hurriedly six months later by mail.Jake soon found a better job at General Dynamics, Convair Division where he was hired for his expert mechanical skills and business expertise. On his 21st birthday, Jake was drafted into the Army for two years, where he proudly served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. He served every day of his enlistment in combat. He remembered the long hours in communications, a job that entailed driving an open-air jeep (#13) alone between stations where soldiers were placed on the front lines. That time was the PRAY part of his youthful training.
Released from the Army, he was happy to spend two days hitchhiking from Washington State back to San Diego while in his uniform. Arriving back at his old job at General Dynamics, having received two promotions and pay raises while he was gone, he found his bank account ranked pretty high, too that was the SAVE part of his life. He took advantage of the GI Education Bill, and received a two-year degree which prepared him for his position as Product Manager, supervising quality and output of work. Jake's favorite Convair project was working on the Atlas Missile, where he acquired a prized possession - a picture of his crew together with one of the first ICBM missiles.
Jake and Sheila Marvel married in 1953 and lovingly raised four children. He leaves his son, David Charles Krugle, his daughter, Loretta Ann Krugle (Mustafa) (Zaki) and his son, Scott Alan Krugle. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Krugle Brown, his wife, Sheila Marvel, and three brothers, Fred Krugle, Charles Krugle, and Donald Krugle (Ione). He also leaves two brothers, Clarence Krugle of Redmond, Oregon, and Larry Krugle of Wichita Falls, Texas, and one sister, Dolly (Krugle) Rambo of El Cajon, California.
In addition, he leaves nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren (and counting). In 1995, Jake married Mary Luedke, a Teacher/Reading specialist with the Santee School District. Both retired, they spent 25 years together in the country setting of Alpine, California, where they enjoyed landscaping and traveling, visiting every state north to south, east to west and back again, marveling at the star attractions of each state. They often went on cruises, visiting 51 countries and six continents. Jake and Mary moved to Ocean Hills Country Club in Oceanside, California in 2014 so that he could be closer to his daughter. It was a magnificent retirement and a wonderful marriage.Unfortunately, Jake's health declined until his death, during which he was surrounded by his loving family. His only request was that he be allowed a Military Honors service. The Military Service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122, 1:00 SHARP to 1:30 PM.
