Mary Jean Freemon was born ca. 1816 in North Carolina, the daughter of Samuel and Mary S. Lynch Freemon, and died ca. 1888 in Lawrence Co., Tennessee.
Along with her brother, Sam, she was one of the first school teachers in the Leoma, Tennessee area. In 1850, Mary and Sam taught at the building that was then called Fog School and Sugar Creek Church.
There is no record of a marriage for Mary Jean Freemon. In the 1880 Lawrence Co., Tennessee census, she is 61 and living in the household of Albert Freemon. She is listed under her maiden surname.
