He organized many of the churches in the eastern part of Warren County and in Grundy County. He, his father Absalom, and his sons Jack and Norris all are recorded as having preached at Shiloh Methodist Church in the Collins River Valley. William donated the land on which Brown's Chapel on Brown Mountain near Palmer, TN was located. William Sanford Brown served several terms as County Court Clerk for Grundy County.
