Dorothy (Lee) Mathis, 87, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at her residence in Mooresville. She was a former resident of Bargersville.
She was born March 3, 1928, in Tunnelton, to the late Harry and Grace (Hughes) Lee. She graduated valedictorian from Tunnelton High School.
She married Max Mathis on Feb.14, 1948, in Lawrence County. He preceded her in death June 30, 2009, after they had been married 61 years.
She loved to travel with Max, and they were able to take several trips to Europe and notably Israel.
Dottie was a member of Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood.
She leaves two sons, or as she always said, "The Boys", Don Mathis(Roberta) of Greenwood and Mark Mathis(Jan) of Mooresville. Dottie cherished her five grandchildren, Cari Hair(Chris) of Mooresville, Christian Mathis(Kimmy)of Kodiak, Alaska, Wendi Held(Andy) of Frisco, Colorado, Marcus Mathis(Kyndee) of Plainfield and Nathan Mathis(Jennifer) of Newport News, Virginia. Dottie doted over her great-grandchildren, Kate, Karissa, Kalee, McKinley, Josi, Reef, Morgan, Joshua, Nora and Harper; and she leaves three surviving sisters, Mary Ellen Wesner of Indianapolis, Lillian Kimbley(Stubbie)Kimbley of Bedford and Betty Jean Wright of Indianapolis.
The Rev. Eric Allen will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time on Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Bluff Creek Cemetery in Greenwood.
