George was born in Cicero, Illinois on August 3, 1927, and left for his heavenly appointment on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Regency House.
George is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Koncinsky and one son, Alan Bruce.
George is survived by his wife, Helen Melichar Koncinsky; one daughter, Janet Watson and her husband, Mark; one son, Randy Koncinsky; two grandsons, Dustin and Joel Koncinsky of Seattle; two granddaughters, twin girls, Jennifer Watson and Erin Lajoie, and two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Amelia Grace Lajoie, all of Denver.
George married his sweetheart, Helen Melichar of Libuse, LA. on June 11, 1950, at Philadelphia Baptist Church. He always said he chased her until she caught him. Of his 89 years, God granted him 67 years of marriage to his loving wife, Helen.
Upon graduation of La. College in 1952, he sold life insurance and joined his father’s construction business. He inherited the business and began a long and successful building career. He was a pioneer in energy efficient home construction and received a federal grant to build the first solar home in Rapides Parish. George owned and operated his own real estate company and merged with Area 1 Realtors in 1976. He developed High Chaparral, Stonehenge, Choctaw Hills and Whispering Pines Subdivisions in Pineville. George and Helen worked as a team in their business for over 30 years.
George loved classic cars and was an avid member of the Cenla Old Car Club. He also loved rabbit and deer hunting, as well as, fishing. Most of all, George loved his family and God. He never wanted to miss his Sunday School class and his church service.
He was proud of his Czechoslovakian heritage and served as president of the La. Czech Heritage Association for several years. He and Helen visited the Czech Republic on two occasions and visited relatives.
George built the Koncinsky Family Museum which houses some of his ancestor’s belongings and held it open for several years during the annual Czech Festival in Libuse/Kolin. George served 12 years in the Army Reserves and National Guard and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. George was deeply proud to be a citizen of this great country, thanks to his ancestors, who came to Libuse in 1914.
He was loved by all who knew him as a fun-loving compassionate, caring person never too busy to share his knowledge and advice with anyone who asked and never too busy to coach Randy’s baseball team or go to Janet’s recitals and plays. We always had a camp where we spent quality time together, fishing and water skiing. All these memories will be cherished by a family who loved him but know that he is at home with the Lord.
Pallbearers honored to serve are, Dr. David Holcombe, Larry Prestridge, Clarence Filipi, Bryan Peart, Phillip Reeves and Bob Hromadka. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeff Draughon, Kent Willet, Ron Beaulier, Russell Jackson, Harley Barrett, and Dusty Thompkins.
