Dean Atchley passed away on March 2, 2008, of a sudden illness in Killeen, Texas. He will be joining his loving wife Betty who passed on July 7, 2006, after a long battle with breast cancer. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico to Alton and Zenobia Atchley on September 16, 1938. Dean who was sometimes called "Cotton" grew up in the Texas Panhandle on a cattle ranch. His family moved to Brawley, California where he met and married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Betty Jane Reynolds on 18 August 1957. They enjoyed exploring the great outdoors, fishing, gardening, traveling the U.S. and spending time with their three children, eleven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by his sister, Maurine Humphreys of Sacramento, CA; his sister, Ardella Jones of Fritch, Texas; and his brother, Leonard Atchley of Elkhart, TX. Dean supported his family working as a lineman for 35 years. He also worked as a water tender (Zan Jero), a two way radio repairman, and long haul truck driver. He and Betty both shared many years working together on several small businesses including Satellite Dish sales and service, Mo Ped sales, a Lawn Care Service, and Truck Transportation Service. His hobbies were dancing, woodworking, electronics, amateur radio, and driving. Dean and Betty are survived by their daughter, Debbie Hoskins of Clovis, CA; son, Danny Atchley of Pomeroy, WA; and son, James Dean Atchley of Copperas Cove, TX. The family celebrated his life in Copperas Cove, TX. Remembrances may be made to your local fish and game wildlife preservation or breast cancer center.
