Dr. McKenzie Dies at Shelby
Dr. W W McKenzie, prominent planter and longtime resident of Shelby, Miss., died at 7 am Friday at his home after a long illness. Services for Dr. McKenzie were held Sunday at Shelby Methodist Church. Rev. L A Wasson officiated. Burial was in the Shelby City cemetery.
Dr. McKenzie was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He moved to Okolona with his parents at an early age. He graduated from Okolona High School and attended Colorado College at Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from the St. Louis University School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Leland and Shelby prior to engaging in farming at Shelby. During World War II, he served as a captain in the Medical corps in the Pacific theater.
He was past president of the Shelby Rotary Club, the Shelby school board, and the Shelby Methodist Church Board of Stewards. Dr. McKenzie was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He was also a member of Mason Lodge No. 478 and a Shriner.
The family requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dr. McKenzie is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Lemoyne Wilkinson McKenzie of Shelby; a son, Rives Nebiett of Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. Henry T McGarrh of Merigold and Miss Mary McKenzie. He is also survived by his two brothers, J L McKenzie of Nashville, Tenn., and B F McKenzie of Starkville; and three sisters, Mrs. Leland McNatt of Farmington, Michigan, Mrs. Earl Adams and Mrs. H B Abernethy, both of Houston. Mr. McKenzie also leaves three grandchildren.
