Sid was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and uncle. He was a joy to be around and always had a story to share. Sidney Carl Stewart passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 with his family by his side. Sid was born in Austin, Texas to his parents Carl Sidney Stewart and Cecyle Ricardson Stewart on June 18, 1934. He graduated from Austin High School in 1952, and then went on to graduate from The University of Texas with a degree in Chemistry from the Plan II program. He then attended medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas and did a four year pathology residency at Parkland Hospital. He was drafted into the air force as an officer and a physician in 1965. He was stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as the head of the pathology laboratory. While in the Air Force, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal. After that, he returned to Austin and practiced at Clinical Pathology Laboratories. He was an avid reader with a library of around 3,000 books, and in retirement he enjoyed archeology and studying Native American artifacts. His other hobbies were gardening, canoeing, fly-fishing, white water rafting, and studying history.
He is survived by his wife Judy of 31 years, daughters Victoria Stewart, and from a previous marriage, Machaela Byram, Kim Stewart, Stephanie and her husband David Henrick, son Marc Stewart, grandchildren Hunter, Regan, Reese, Paige Henrick, and Max Byram, nephew Kendal Stewart, and niece Kara Mullins.
We want to say a special thanks to Dr. Ace Alsup and his staff. We also want to thank Beverly Downey-Peck, Beverly Bomar, and Verna Sanders for the excellent care he received.
