His family migrated to Ireland and then to America in 1763. The family, which included his father, John, and brothers James and Samuel first went to Cumberland County, PA. Later the three brothers moved to York County, South Carolina. Craig was wounded in the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Fishing Creek.
