She was the daughter of the late John Peter and Mamie Player Ragin. She became a resident of Epworth Children's Home in Columbia at an early age and remained there throughout her school years. "Ms. Johnnie", as she was known by so many, was a retired sales associate with B. C. Moore & Sons. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church near Alcolu.
Surviving are one son, James Manning Lee, Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou, of Pinewood; two daughters, Mary E. Lee Dallery and her husband, Ed, of Sumter, and Clara B. Lee Reynolds and her husband, Bob, of Chapin; five grandchildren, James Franklyn Dallery of Knoxville, TN, Robert Laird Dallery of Sumter, James Manning Lee, III of Sumter, Heather Reynolds Coker of Lexington, and Todd Reynolds Lee of Mt. Pleasant; and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, the late James Manning Lee; late husband, John Leon Danz; son, Col. John Edward Lee; infant triplets; and sisters, Willie Belle Barnett, and Florence Coughlin.
