Miss Lula Margaret Chick married Samul B Herron on 15 December 1901 at Curtis, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, they moved to Archer City, Texas.
One of Archer County's most lovable pioneer citizens, Samuel Blue “Sam” Herron, 76, died at his home, eight miles southeast of Archer City, Texas. As a child of four years, he moved with his parents to Archer County, Texas settling in the Westfork community. Both of his parents died when he was eight years old and the children were taken back to Denton County, Texas by their maternal grandfather. When Samuel Herron reached early manhood, he and his younger brother, C.L. Herron, moved back to the home place near Westfork where they entered the cattle business.
In 1922, Mr Herron moved his family to Archer City, Texas where he entered the grocery business in 1923. He operated his store for about 10 years, maintaining his cattle interests all the while. Mr. Herron retired from the grocery business in 1933, he again resumed his ranching - farming operations on a full time scale.
Sam Herron is going to be missed - sadly missed - by his surviving children and other relatives but a great number of admiring friends. Every time he stopped anyone on the streets of Archer City he would have a tale or a witty yarn to tell.
Services were held at First Baptist Church with Rev. J.R. Naylor officiating assisted by Rev. H.D. Blair of Cisco, Texas and a former pastor of Archer City. Rev. E.G. Gregory of San Antonio, a former pastor was to speak but failed to arrive in time.
Survived by eight daughters and two sons - Mrs. Elma Wood, MRs. W.C. Kunkel, Mrs. Jim Jennings, Mrs. Frank Haley, Mrs. George Abercrombie, Mrs. E.B. Nicholson, MRs. Larry G Vera, Mrs. Selby Johnson, Sam B Herron, Jr., Perry E Herron; one brother - Lewis C Herron; two sisters - Mrs. W.L. Andrews, Mrs. George Benson.
