Glenn V. Laxton, 74, of Lincoln passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Cummings) Laxton.Born in Chelsea, MA, a son of the late John V. and Mildred (Smith) Laxton, he had lived in Pawtucket for 18 years before moving to Lincoln 2 years.Glenn was an Emmy Award winning investigative reporter and the “Troubleshooter” at WPRI-TV as well as a Morning Anchor. He began his career at WEOK- AM in Poughkeepsie, NY where he served as its news director. He came to Providence and WPRI from 1980 -1990 before leaving for 5 years working for Attleboro Cable News. He returned to WPRI in 1995 and stayed there until his retirement in 2007.He was a 1960 graduate of Hope High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Emerson College in 1964.Glenn served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard for 20 years retiring as Communications Director with the rank of Major.From age 11, he communicated with Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy fame until Stan’s death in 1965. He was a talented piano player and sang in the a cappella doo-wop group, Pink Tuxedo. He was a voracious reader and was just finishing writing his third book. He was a movie extra and was a member of the SAG (Screen Actors Guild). He was an avid baseball fan.Glenn served on the Board of Directors of A Wish Come True, the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame, and the Blackstone Valley Historical Society.Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Adam Laxton and his fiancée, Anna, of Berkeley, CA, Diane Laxton and her fiancé, Brian Logan, of Santa Clara, CA, and Jillian Laxton and her companion, Tim Beresford Howe, of Pleasanton, CA; his two stepdaughters, Tracey Ingle of Haydenville, MA and Christina Riel of Chepachet, RI; one stepson, David Ingle of Pawtucket; one brother, Stephen F. Laxton and his wife, Gail, of Cumberland; his four beloved granddaughters, Seven Ingle, Mara Walls, and twins, Courtney and Caitlyn Riel; and several nieces and nephews.His funeral will be held Monday, June 13 at 10 A.M. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.Relatives and friends are invited and may call SUNDAY 2-5 P.M.
