My dad was one of 4 children born to Jim and Hazel Graham. He was born and raised in Belfast in Marshall Co Tn. He served in WWII on the Island of Siapan. He talked about his war experiences only once with us kids. Our boys faced heavy fighting against a foe that would rather commit suicide than surrender. He had two of his Captains killed before his eyes. The first's jeep exploded, my dad would have been in the Jeep but the Captain decided he should stay behind. The second Captain wanted to see a cave on the island and had my dad drive him. The Captain was killed by sniper fire while sitting next to my dad in the jeep.
He met and married my mom Juanita Bills after he returned home from the war. They had their 3 children while living in Marshall Co.,Tn. When I was 7 we moved first to Bowling Green,Ky and a year later we moved to Scottsvville, Ky. My dad was a traveling furniture salesman and later opened his own furniture store in Scottsville.
After we kids had graduated from high school my parents divorced after an unhappy marriage. He married Joyce Lyles who was a widow with 2 grown girls.
. He loved the grand children and liked having them around. He was like a kid himself at Christmas time. He enjoyed shopping for the grand children and watching them open their presents.
He found Christ after his second marriage and found a measure of peace and contentment.
Thanks to those that have visited and left a token for my dad it means a lot to me. Also thanks go to Silbert Hartis who added, maintained and then graciously transferred my dad's memorial to me.
