Alvin A. Reese, 87, of Hazle Street, Tamaqua, PA died on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Bethlehem, PA. He was the husband of the late Cleora M. (nee Scouten) Reese to whom he had been married for 60 years when she died in 2012. Born in Jermyn, Lackawanna County, PA on September 20, 1931, Alvin was a son of the late James and A. Evelyn (nee Eastlake) Reese. Having served as the pastor of the Primitive Methodist Church, Tamaqua for 25 years from 1975 until 2000, he served the Welcome Methodist Church, Landingville, PA for 8 years after his retirement. Prior to serving in Tamaqua, Alvin served the Primitive Methodist churches in Boone, Iowa from 1961-1963; Madison, Wisconsin in 1964; and Nanticoke, PA from 1965-1975. He graduated from Jermyn High School in 1949 and the Practical Training School, now Davis University, in Johnson City, New York. Alvin also received a degree in music. He was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church, Tamaqua and the Tamaqua Ministerium; was a founding board member of the Tamaqua Adult Day Care; and was a board member of the Primitive Methodist Bible Camp. Alvin is survived by sons, Mark A. Reese and his wife Nancy of Tamaqua and Timothy E. Reese and his spouse Glen Low of Wenham Massachusetts; grandchildren, Amy DAgostino and her husband Jarrod of Laurel, Maryland and Eric J. Reese and his wife Alyssa Michelle of Hanover Township, PA; great granddaughter, Lucy DAgostino; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brothers James and Donald and sister Dorothy. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 18 in the Primitive Methodist Church, 57 Hunter Street, Tamaqua with Pastor Richard Clemson and Gerald Petrole officiating. Call on Wednesday, October 17 from 5-8 PM at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call on Thursday at the Primitive Methodist Church from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment in the Valley View Cemetery, Jermyn, PA will take place at 11 AM on Friday, October 19.
