Obituary of Joseph Cepheus Reynolds
Rev. Joseph C Reynolds Jr. 90, of Roanoke, formerly of Lynchburg passed away after a long illness on Sunday December 13th 2015. Born December 23, 1924, he was a son of the late Joseph C. Reynolds Sr. and Eula Hancock Reynolds. He was predeceased by his only sibling, a brother, Calvin E. Reynolds. He is survived by his former wife Esther Reynolds, and three sons, Dale Clinton Reynolds of Roanoke, Va, Dr. Wayne Calvin Reynolds and wife Cathy of Williamsburg, Va. and Brian Kent Reynolds of Churhill,Tn. as well as five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Reynolds was a WWII veteran serving with the 10th Army 504th Artillery Battalion Battery "B" in the South Pacific. He was present at General MacArthur's return to the Philippines and also saw service in Okinawa. After being discharged in 1946 he attended Bible College in Winston-Salem N.C. and Bluefield College being ordained a Baptist minister in Lynchburg, Va. He served several years ministering churches in the Lynchburg area and then as minister of Springwood Baptist Church in Springwood, Va. until joining Total Action Against Poverty in Roanoke in 1967. He then retired after working with the Developmental Water Program in Roanoke helping set up running water to rural homes throughout the Southeast. He had volunteered with several social programs following his retirement.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. A graveside interment service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
