As the result of a runaway accident on August 26 Nicholas Batta passed away at St. Elizabeth hospital at 12:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon. His home was nine miles north of Otterbein and he was on his way to this city at the time of the accident. He was trampled under the fee of a horse near Number Ten and one limb and one arm were broken and he sustained other injuries.
Deceased was 71 years old and was a farmer by occupation. He was a member of St. Bridget's Church and was an honest citizen.
A widow and fourteen children survive. The remains were taken to the home of his son at 1939 Morton street. The funeral will be conducted from St. Lawrence church tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock and the interment will be made in St. Joseph's cemetery. --Lafayette Daily Courier, September 12, 1904
