Joe Oscar Plum, age 97, of Waldron passed away May 13, 2019 at home. He was born June 22, 1921 to the late Samuel and Dollie Plum. Joe worked for the Civil Service for over 30 years and retired at Fort Chaffee where he had been the Foreman of the Heavy Equipment Shop for many years. He loved to sing and play the guitar and performed often at church, nursing homes and other functions. He was an avid gardener and a champion at horseshoes. He was a longtime member of the Winfield Baptist Church and also gave freely of his time to the Gideon's and Project Compassion
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and George; 6 sisters, Emmer, Ruby, Joyce, Eulla Mae, Helen, and Willene; first wife of 45 years, Ruby Plum; second wife of 21 years, Madie Plum; two sons, Jeffrey Plum and Gregory Plum; and a daughter, Julia Woods.
He is survived by a brother, Willis Plum and wife Donna of Peoria, IL; a son Kenneth Plum and wife Leah of Greenwood ; two daughters, Shirley Russell of Fort Smith and Donna Cantrell and husband Bob of Waldron; two step sons, Jessie Hale of California and Perry Neal Vincent of Waldron; 12 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 17 at Winfield Baptist Church in Waldron with internment to follow at Lamb Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home in Waldron.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 pm, Thursday, May 16 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
