  "When Eliza's brother, Prussia, died in 1925, his daughter, 8-year-old Esther, came to live with the Lathams. Later Gladys, her sister, joined the household, and both were welcomed as daughters and sisters. Esther, now a widow, became a nurse and has made a life-time career of that profession.
