Mr. Freeman Edward Cowherd, 78, of Spring Hill died Jan. 15, 2009.
A 1948 graduate of Dupont High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Before moving to Spring Hill, Mr. Cowherd was employed by Proctor and Gamble for many years. Later, he was the former owner and operator of Cowherd's Restaurant, Cedar Inn, Steeplechase and Red Raider Market.
The former mayor of Spring Hill (1993-95) also served as an alderman and on the Planning Commission for several years.
Giles Countians may remember Mr. Cowherd as the host of a sports talk show on WKSR Radio as well as the author of the newspaper column, "It Happened Here Abouts."
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Willie Mae Cowherd; and step-son Jeff Mathews.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cowherd; son Mark Cowherd and wife Becky; daughters, Teresa Dwire and husband Rick, Connie Aulds and husband Bruce, Bouchi Bellendier and husband Don and Amanda Cowherd Baker; step-daughter Alice Schmidt and husband Randy; step-son Casper Matthews; brothers, Ronnie Cowherd and wife Barbara, Frank Cowherd and wife Kathy and Jack Cowherd and wife Carol; sister Dean McMurtry and husband Jim; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
