Sarah was born in Nantyglo, Monmouthshire, Wales.
Sarah Jones left Wales around April 26, 1883 and arriving in New York May 7, 1883 with five children: Evan,Sarah, Edwin, Dave, and Mary.
They arrived in Soddy Daisy (Sail Creek ?), Tennessee on May 11, 1883 where John O. Evans was already settled. He had arrived from Wales earlier (perhaps about 1882).
Edwin died one year after arriving, on May 29, 1884.
John (and other family members as well) were coal miners. They were not in Tennessee long, a few years, moving on to Russellville, Pope County Arkansas sometime around 1890 or 1891.
In Pope County, Sarah ran a boarding house. Unwilling to evict a boarder who had tuberculosis but nowhere else to go, she and one of the older daughters nursed him through his death, both contracting the desease and later dying of it. John's death was related to his work in the mines, but Aunt Maggie wasn't sure whether it was "Black Lung" of not. John and Sarah died within a year of each other. Whomever was the oldest brother or sister (still unmarried and living at home) functioned as "mother and father" passing the responsibility along down the line, raising themselves.
