Dr. Douglas D. Jernigan, 84, Springfield, Missouri departed this life February 23, 2017.
He was born April 16, 1932 at Checotah, Oklahoma to Marvin L. and Naoma (Barber) Jernigan.
Douglas was united in marriage to Marilyn Belyeu in 1952.
Education was an important aspect of his life, both as a student and as a professor. He earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. In addition to his work in education, Dr. Jernigan pastored several churches during his lifetime.
Douglas enjoyed woodworking, stained glass and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Don Jernigan, two sisters, Mildred McComber and Laverne Brown.
Douglas is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home, one daughter, Lynette Farrand and husband Phil of Fair Grove, Missouri, one son, LTC Doye Jernigan and wife Denise of Lawton, Oklahoma, one brother, COL (R) Duie Jernigan and wife Jodi of Stone Bluff, Oklahoma and one sister Vi Lee and husband Roy of Clovis, California, three grandchildren, Ryan Jernigan and wife Laura, Jonathan Jernigan and wife Melissa, Elizabeth Beauchamp and husband Alan, three great grandchildren, Clara and Asher Beauchamp and Jaxon Jernigan.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Central Assembly of God Chapel on Monday February 27, 2017 with services following at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Doug Jernigan Memorial Scholarship in care of Central Assembly of God, 1301 N. Boonville Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65802.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
