Elizabeth was from Lincoln, NC. Her husband's name is unknown, but he may be John Hope, born 1818, who died in Raleigh after a short stint in the Confederate army at age 26. He had enlisted as a farmer in Lincoln county to serve with Co H, NC 52nd infantry and died within a matter of weeks. They had a daughter, Amanda Edna, born in 1853 in York, SC and sons, James Lee and Edward. Online trees indicate that Amanda was placed in an orphanage. Lee may have lived with Henry Hope's family in SC. It is not known what became of Edward.
It is likely that Elizabeth was placed in the NC asylum in Raleigh when her children were young. She is seen there in the 1880 census and may have been there for many years by then.
Her marker number, 61, indicates that she was one of the first people admitted to this asylum, most likely transferring from the Raleigh asylum in the Spring of 1883. They traveled by train.
Elizabeth's daughter, Amanda, married George W Hampton in 1873, he having met her at the orphanage. They lived in Wellford, Spartanburg county, NC and had 8 children, the oldest being named Elizabeth.
This story was pieced together from online family trees.
Elizabeth may be a Teague as this family lived next door to the family in SC in 1860.
