A native of Asheville, he was son of the late Edwin Yates and Mary Idelle Herndon Sorrells. Mr. Sorrells graduated from NC State with a degree in civil engineering and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He retired as a Sales Manager from Mitchell Distributing Company after 30 years of service. He was a member of The Asheville County Club and the Bandits Golfing Group, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carole Walker Sorrells; son, James E. Sorrells and his wife, Stephanie of Littleton, CO; daughter, Kimberly S. Shelton and her husband, Mike of Weaverville, NC and four grandchildren, Walker and Brayden Sorrells and Olivia and Alixanna Shelton. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue with Rev. Jeffrey A. Hudson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be private.
