DIED: - At the residence of his son, S. Sorrel, at Olivier, on Thursday morning, Dec. 21st, 1916, at 2 a. m. Aruns S. Sorrel, age, 74 years, 7 months and 18 days. The funeral took place from St. Peters Catholic Church, at 4 p. m. the same day. Interment in St. Peters Cemetery. Mr. Sorrel had been an invalid for several years, and at the time of his death, was making his home with his son, at Olivier Station.
Just after the war Mr. Sorrel undertook to rehabilitate the lost fortunes of the family and he was successful. When the Morgans La. & Texas R. R., in 1870, undertook to extend its line from Brashier, (afterwards Morgan City,) on to Texas connections, the route lay through his lands, just off the Teche ridge. Sorrel station was located there, just a few miles below Jeanerette, on his lands.
His eldest son, Marshall, was the victim of a negro murder and robbery plot, at Olivier station in 1899.
He is survived by a son, S. Sorrel, a merchant, at Olivier station, east-side, and a daughter, the widow of the late Hon. Andrew J. Cammack of this city.
