James Charles Pomroy passed away on February 6, 2022 at the age of 89 in his home in Mesa, Az surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on October 21, 1932 in Paris, Texas to Hubert & Letha Pomroy. Charles & Patricia were blissfully married for 67 years and were a model of what a marriage should look like. Along with Patricia he is survived by his 3 children, Deborah of Sun Lakes, Teresa of Chandler, and Stephen of Mesa. Charles had 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren along with 6 remaining siblings.
Charles will always be remembered as a devout Christian who loved and served Jesus all of his adult life. He served the church in many capacities as he was a lay preacher for his community, taught Sunday School, held Bible Study groups, helped build 2 churches in Bisbee and Double Adobe, traveled to Mexico and to the Philippines where he helped build homes and to witness to all who would hear. He was a man of integrity and he was his message…a simple man who had responded to God’s love by placing his faith in Jesus, receiving the assurance that his sins were forgiven, that he would not perish, but would have everlasting life.
He was a proud family man and his family came first, no matter what. He was always there for any family members who needed him. Weekends were often filled with family card games and large gatherings at Grandma Pomroy’s house while living in Bisbee. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper and a man who loved the outdoors. One could often find him simply watching the birds, listening to the stream flowing and enjoying all of nature. He loved riding horses, motorcycles and traveling throughout the states enjoying America’s beautiful places. Charles was a kind man, always smiling and happy. His beautiful dark, loving eyes, tender heart, caring and compassion will always be remembered. He was the salt of the earth and a role model to everyone who knew him. While he may be physically absent and his voice silent, the family is confident that his message and life will continue to reverberate throughout the generations to come.
Charles served in the Korean War as a Medic. He was always proud of this great country and pleased to have served.
