Karye Elmina Cheser Ingle House
Karye Elmina Cheser was born near Ardmore, OK. She was the next to the youngest of 11 children born to parents, Euell and Elmina Cheser, and was the last survivor of all the siblings. She came to Heber, CA with her family in 1926 and attended Heber School through the 8th grade. Prior to her death, Karye was the oldest living graduate of Heber Elementary, and was honored as such in July, 2007 at the school's 100th anniversary event. She was a graduate of Central Union High School, Class of 1936.
As a young woman, prior to having a family, Karye enjoyed being a leader of a Campfire Girls club in Heber. Karye was very proud that she had been a school board trustee of Meadows Union School District. She also took pride in being a charter member of the El Centro Women of the Moose, and for being the organization's first Senior Regent. Some of her most fulfilling years were serving as a "Pink Lady" at the El Centro Regional Medical Center.
A devout Christian, Karye had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of El Centro for all of her adult life. As a teenager, her first Methodist membership was in the Heber Methodist Church that eventually merged with the El Centro branch. She was active throughout the years in the various Methodist Church women's groups. In her later years she particularly relished the occasional luncheon and breakfast meetings. Prior to her passing, she was one of the oldest members, and one of the longest tenured members of her church.
Karye was preceded in death by two wonderful husbands, Van D. Ingle, Jr., and Elmer B. House.
She is survived by 3 sons: Van G. "Jerry" Ingle (Jacquie), Daryl R. Ingle (Linda), and Clifford E. Ingle (Vickie).
She leaves 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held December 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 312 S. 8th St., El Centro. The family invites all of Karye's friends and family to join them for a light lunch at the conclusion in the church social hall. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 201 E. Gillett St., El Centro.
