Sarah was the daughter of Isaac & Margaret (Atkinson) Ennis. They lived in Worcester co, Maryland in 1850 and later moved to Menard co, IL.
In 1860, Sarah worked as a domestic servant for the Morris family in Menard county, IL and it was in this county that she married David J.J. Hornback on 30 June 1864. David was a widower and had a son Jacob from his previous marriage to Harriet Perkins. David was married to Mary Church before Harriet.
David and Sarah farmed in Menard county for several years before moving to a farm in Adams county, Nebraska in the late 1870's and staying there until after 1885 when they moved to a farm near Spencer, NE.
David and Sarah had children: John, Charles, Dora, Isaac, Wesley, Lovina "Nina" and Maria.
