Lola Vitley Blacksmith 1922 - 2011
When someone you know dies, they make a rainbow from here to heaven. Lola Wanda Anderson, born to Losado Burns Anderson and Mary Ann Haws on November 10, 1922, in Vernal, Utah, departed from her family and friends to meet her Maker on December 31, 2011.
Lola is preceded in death by her mother, father, son, sister, brothers, grandson, great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lola was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful and loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Mary Hellickson and son Kenneth Blacksmith.
Lola received the Distinguished Citizen Award through the Idaho Statesman on December 25, 1983 while working at Vic's Café on 10th Street, downtown Boise. Lola worked at Vic's for 23 years and extended a helping hand to many customers who were down and out and had no money to pay for their food. She also took in women who had nowhere to go and helped mend clothing for those who had a limited wardrobe. She always said, "They're just people. They have problems. If you can help them here and there, I think it's nice."
After Vic's Café burned down in 1986, our Mom retired for a few years. She felt she was still too young to retire, so she went to work for her son at Northland Industries. She learned how to put cabinet doors together for the campers and loved working in the family owned business.
Besides being an avid reader, Lola loved to bowl. She was in numerous women's leagues and held almost all positions on the board of Women's Bowling Association. Lola is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
There will be a graveside Memorial Service at Dry Creek Cemetery on Thursday, January 5th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Welfare Fund at the Goddard Ward LDS Church.
The family would like to thank St. Luke's hospice organization for their caring and loving service throughout these past 3 months.
