L. C. (Lon) Bates Jr., 66, of 715 E. Second Ave., died Tuesday following an attack suffered earlier.
Mr. Bates was born in McMinnville County, Tenn. July 31, 1900, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lon Charles Bates. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a retired textile employe.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Martha Clesi, of Tampa, Fla.; Mrs,. Mary Sharp, of Penescola, Fla.; Mrs. Cordelia Gresham, of Rome; two sons, Ollie A. Bates, of Tampa; John Bates, of Rome; two brothers, Elbert Bates, of Buckley, Calif. and Ollie Bates of Rome; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the DeSoto Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Kelley officiating. Interment will be in East View Cemetery with the Henderson-Frazier Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers include John Henry Cash, J. L. Gay, Roy Hardin, Burt Snow, Nicky Shores, Lon Stretitman, M. M. Ely.
The body will lie in state at the residence until time for services.
