James (Jim) Fox was born October 31, 1930, in Dalhart, Texas, to John and Lola Fox. He stepped into eternity, surrounded by his family, on December 3, 2017 at his home in Katy, Texas.
At the age of five, Jim’s family moved to Hardesty, Oklahoma, where they farmed and from where Jim graduated high school. During his junior and senior years in high school he was a school bus driver.
Following high school, Jim attended two terms at the Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Later, Jim served many years on the Apostolic Faith Bible College Board. Jim served four years in the United States Air Force, two of those years in Korea. During his time in service, he continued to share the gospel and minister to others as a Chaplain.
He married LaMoyne Barker on May 5, 1961, and they were blessed with two loving children, DeAnn and David.
Jim spent all of his adult life in ministry. Jim had a great love for pastoring and helping people, whether pointing them to Jesus from the pulpit in the churches he and LaMoyne pastored, or in picking up hammer and nails to help in the construction and maintenance of youth camps and churches. Jim and LaMoyne often opened their home to family/friends/strangers when they arrived needing a place to stay, regroup, or live for a time. In addition to his love for people and pastoring, Jim’s lifelong passions were youth and missions.
Highlights of Jim’s youth and mission passions were:
• Organizing and overseeing construction at the Apostolic Faith Youth Camp in Laverne, Oklahoma, and later serving many years on the Youth Camp Committee
• Working alongside his brother in law Raymond Barker and longtime friend John Hamm building and continuously improving the Lost Pines Camp in LaGrange, Texas, from where many youth camps and singing schools helped to equip young people.
• Working with missions and missionaries to advance the great news of Jesus around the globe. India Gospel Outreach with Valson and Lali Abraham, and Jean Bates in Guatemala were favorite missions that he faithfully supported with every opportunity presented to him.
• KIDS…KIDS…KIDS. Jim was always ready to load pre-teens and teenagers on buses and taking them to Houston for tacos or burgers after church or scaling treacherous mountain switchbacks by bus to ski in New Mexico and Colorado.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lola Fox, daughter DeAnn Fox Blackwell, and grandson Cole Fox. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, John and Bill Fox, and sister Glenna Turner.
Jim is survived by his wife, LaMoyne Fox, of the home in Katy; son David Fox and daughter in-law Trina of Katy, and son in-law Raleigh Blackwell of Katy. He is also survived by his brother, Harry Fox, of Hardesty, Oklahoma. Jim is dearly loved by grandchildren Rachel Blackwell and son Braden of Katy; Ty Blackwell of Katy; Emily Difference and her husband Drew of Katy; Natheniel Hacker, wife Amanda and son Bentley of Blanchard, Oklahoma; Alan Fox and daughter Addison of Katy, and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schmidt Funeral Home - East Avenue Chapel, in Katy. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Trinity Apostolic Faith Church, in Katy, with Rev. Ted Barker officiating. Interment in Katy Magnolia Cemetery.
